The townhouse is in a gated community in the prestigious "Foothills" northeast of Tucson. It's hard to imagine a better location... either in the world or within the area. First, a word about Tucson. CLIMATE. It's not just sunny.... There is almost always some time of day when it temperature is perfect. In the summer, it's morning and evening, in the winter, it's usually very comfortable all afternoon. It's cooler than Phoenix, but warm enough to only get a couple of hard freezes per year. Or spend the afternoon on a "sky island" (Mount Lemmon) where the climate far cooler. Or take the short drive to Mexico, and visit Rocky Point, on the sea of Cortez. The short drive to Phoenix means almost anything a mega-city has to offer is close by, and being located on I-10 and the corresponding rail route eastward means affordable consumer goods and California produce. Yet with only a million or so residents Tucson has a laid-back, resort-town feel.... Especially in the Catalina foothills, that prime strip of land, which overlooks the city.

So what is so special about the Catalina Foothills? Basically there's a limited supply of land. Downtown is sandwiched between an Indian reservation to the southwest, a national park to the west, the airport and a military base to the south, and the foothills to the Catalina Mountains to the Northeast. So what are upscale folks to do? Head north/northwest or east, which is exactly what has happened. And what do the truly affluent do? Sit squarely in the middle of that affluent swath, looking down on the city. This town home is in the middle of that middle. But don't take my word for it.
